Alan Holmes has been painting for over 30 years. Although he works in most media, Alan specialises in acrylics. His representational but impressionistic style often incorporates the use of unique textures that add an intense depth to his work.

Alan has lived in St Ives for the past seven years. He enjoys nothing more than painting and sketching in the heart of Cornwall, often accompanied by his friend and fellow painter John Hutchens. Much of Alan’s work features marine and landscape subjects from the local area.

Alan is extremely proud to have one of his paintings on the BBC's Your Paintings website. Holmes's 'The Poulter below Clumber, Nottinghamshire', is owned by Bassetlaw District Council and has recently been accepted into the Your Paintings gallery, which aims to show the entire UK national collection of oil paintings, the stories behind the paintings, and where to enjoy them for real. It is made up of paintings from thousands of museums and other public institutions around the the UK. Your Paintings is a joint initiative between the BBC, the Public Catalogue Foundation and participating collections and museums from across the country.
